FUN WITH CHINESE

Here now some Chinese identifications of various shortwave stations. These were all recorded off air in Taiwan between 1992 and 1997, with a Panasonic RF-B65L. Quality may vary as reception of many channels here in Taiwan is not as easy as you might expect. Being close to the source has its disadvantages. Furthermore my equipment is for casual listening only, not for professional use. Besides the WAV-file I have given full IDs in Pinyin and verbatim translation in English.

CHINA

• China National Radio (WAV 12 kb)

Pinyin: Zhong1-yang1 Ren2-min2 Guang3-bo1 Dian4-tai2
English: Central Peoples Broadcasting Station.
The program directed towards Taiwan usually identifies itself with CNR, then adding "ben3-tai2  dui4  Tai2-wan1 guang3-bo1" (WAV 9 kb), which means "this station towards Taiwan program. The CNR Chinese program also identifies with CNR IDs and separate "ben3-tai2   hua2-yu3  shi4-jie4," meaning "this station's Chinese Language World."

English: China International Broadcasting Station. Their Chinese program now adds "hua2-yu3  tai2" (Chinese language program) behind the indentification.

In Chinese the "<something> of <something>" construction is opposite compared to English, so a station name like "Voice of Peace," will be "Peace of Voice" in Chinese.
